Aanii, Boozhoo, Hello:
My name is Kevin Berube. I’m a proud Ojibway from Flying Post First Nation and I originally hail from Nipigon, Ontario. I joined the IESO in the position of Director of Indigenous Relations this past October.
Prior to joining the IESO I worked with Enbridge Inc. as a Senior Advisor – Community and Indigenous Relations. I moved to Toronto in 2015 from Sioux Lookout, Ontario where I served in the helping field beginning in 1994 with Tikinagan Child and Family Services, Sioux Lookout First Nations Health Authority and the Meno Ya Win Health Centre. I served in Director’s roles in the aforementioned organizations from 1999 to 2015.
I’ve had the privilege of sitting on various Boards and Advisory Councils: Ontario Centre of Excellence for Child and Youth Mental Health, Teach for Canada, Youth Advisory Council Nishnawbe Aski-Nation. I’ve contributed articles as a member of the Health Advisory Team with the Globe and Mail. I currently sit on the Bell Let’s Talk Mental Health Advisory Group where we are tasked with reviewing mental health proposals for funding.
Over the past 30 years I’ve volunteered my time in many arenas in Northern and Southern Ontario as a hockey coach. Although I’ve retired from coaching my partner Christine and I still love watching our boys play hockey and will often be found in a cold rink throughout the winter. I enjoy travelling north to my homeland to spend time in the bush hunting and fishing with family.
I’m excited to join the IESO family to see where this journey takes us.
Miigwetch.
