Susan Sullivan
Community Energy Champion
As the Community Energy Champion, Susan is excited to use all of her talents, education, and professional experience to serve Caldwell First Nation, and to help it achieve the goal of becoming the gold standard in sustainable, green, net zero communities. One of her top priorities is to engage with members of CFN from all walks of life to provide then with information about what is possible for personal and community energy options, to hear community opinions and ideas on energy initiatives, and to learn from others in this field to help her bring the best opportunities forward for Caldwell First Nation.
Susan has also been working in a support capacity on a wide variety of programs and projects within the CFN organization, including serving as a Staff Rep for the Youth Advisory Committee and assisting with a wide variety of projects happening in the Economic Development and the Environment and Consultation Departments, including the grand openings of CFN’s new Conservation Boardwalk, the re-launch of the CFN Marina, the development of a path forward for CFN’s co-governance of the newly forming Ojibway National Urban Park, the youth-led Indigenous Youth Art and Water project and campaign, and a range of other exciting projects and developments for CFN.
Susan was born and raised locally in the Kingsville-Leamington area before continuing her studies at the University of Windsor, where she earned her BA (Hons.) in International Relations and Development Studies, her B.Ed in Junior/Intermediate History Education, her BA (Hons.) in Classical Studies & Archaeology, and her BFA (hons.) in Visual Art with a focus in sculpture and the industrial arts, as well as attending the University of Toronto/OISE for certification in senior division history and social studies education. Before joining CFN, Susan worked in Cultural Resource Management as an archaeological field technician, working on multiple land assessment projects for a range of energy, development and governmental entities throughout southwestern Ontario. Prior to that, she served for seven years as a high school teacher with the Greater Essex County District School Board.
Susan also has experience in federal, provincial and municipal politics, having served as an executive member of her local Federal Riding Association, working in political campaign management for candidates at all three levels of government, serving as a youth regional strategic planner for the Hon. Paul Martin during his party leadership race, sitting on Premier Dalton McGuinty’s Youth Advisory Panel in Queen’s Park, and receiving the Ontario Young Liberals’ Student Club President of the Year Award for her work as President of the University of Windsor Young Liberals. Susan currently has no political party affiliation.
In her spare time, Susan also loves art and art making, fixing up her old house, camping and nature walks with her partner Zack, working away in her backyard produce garden, thrift shopping for old treasures, and snuggling up with her cats. She is also a proud Auntie to her precious nephews Jacob Stanley Sullivan and Eamon Wallace Sullivan.
